Hi Friends!

March has entered the chat 🌷

And she’s brought a lot with her: Ramadan, Women's History Month, and Irish-American Heritage Month!

There’s plenty to celebrate — like more Friday the 13th for the spooky among us — so we’re spreading the yay with a FREE month of LMC membership. Just sign up for Basic Monthly here and apply coupon code LUCKY at checkout. It's valid through March so you can access all of this month’s programming like…

  • Revise With Purpose: Revision Workshops
Last chance to level up revision skills in our final (for now) workshop!

  • Crooks & Detectives: A Craft Masterclass

In March, think of characters as Detectives and narratives as ‘investigations’ in these generative craft workshops — as we cover why you’d want to.

  • Author Chat + Q&A with Tolani Akinola

Cooking up a debut novel? Let’s get into what (not) to expect.

  • Mentored Milestones

Convert hazy Writing Life goals into action items we can knock out, together.

Scroll down for details or just…

All the below takes place in our members-only Discord server. All times US Eastern.

Finish (and Sell!) that Debut Novel: Chat + Q&A w/ Tolani Akinola

The path to publishing that first novel can get pretty twisty so pop in for some honesty on what (not) to expect from a debut author who doesn’t mind sharing.

We’ll chat with Tolani Akinola about how she actually finished and sold Leave Your Mess at Home, out April 14! We’ll chat about writing, querying, selling, revising, and promoting — so bring your questions if you wanna hear what authors rarely say in public.

Sunday, Mar 15 @ 12-1PM ET

Tolani Akinola is a writer of fiction. She was a 2024 MacDowell artist-in-residence and 2023 Reese's Book Club LitUp fellow. She holds a B.A. from the University of Chicago and an M.P.H. from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She lives outside of Atlanta.

Crooks and Detectives: A Craft Masterclass

Led by Editor Steve 👋

In these generative craft workshops, practice thinking of characters as Crooks and Detectives to cover the fundamentals of storytelling in more intuitive and thorough ways.

In February, we covered the figure of The Crook and 5 elements of a crime.

In March, we’ll cover the figure of The Detective and how the framework of investigation can add more tension, depth, and propulsion to any narrative.

Come prepared to think, share, and write. Leave with new perspectives and concepts as well as multiple ‘case files’ you can build into full pieces.

Tuesday, Mar 24 @ 8-9PM ET: The Detective (Part 1 of 2)
Tuesday, Mar 31 @ 8-9PM ET: The Detective (Part 2 of 2)

Check Discord #events or #announcements for details. Writers of all genres welcome.

Revise with Purpose: Revision Workshop #3

Free for everyone! Non-members welcome

Have a promising draft but something’s not right?

In this 3rd of 3 live group sessions, we'll help writers resolve common issues in drafts by addressing the work and questions submitted by you, the registrants. We'll build mini-craft chats around your concerns and demo some concepts, on the spot, to get you revising with purpose, in ways that matter to you.

Saturday, Mar 28 @ 1-2pm ET + Q&A

Register and submit your work + question here. Or just pop in here to listen.
